I know I haven’t been the most regular blogger of late. There has been a lot going on, Mr T has been in for two neck surgeries, we have had a lot on life wise and I have been preparing for the fact that I will be going in for laparoscopic surgery on the 12th of September.
Fast forward to now and I just got a call from the specialist… they want to do it this Saturday… eik! At first I went into what I like to call ‘deal with it’ mode; I spoke to my boss, we worked out the rosters and staff availability to make sure the swap was possible (especially because it also means that I will be off for 3 days next week). Luckily staff wise it turned out there are less people off next week than the one after. It also works out SO much better cycle wise, originally I was probably going to be going in for surgery whilst on my period and the doctor was like, ‘that’s fine, just wear a pad or something and I will remove it when I am ready for that area’ EWW!!! I think a lot of my anxiety was around that too, logically I know he is a doctor who has dealt with much icker stuff than that, but illogically it freaked me out a little hahaha.
So now that I have pretty much organised everything so it can be done this week I am sitting here going, “Shit! It is actually happening!” and am freaking out a bit. I have a fair amount of anxiety when it comes to hospitals and I have never been in for what I think of as proper surgery before… they removed my wisdom teeth, but that is very superficial surgery compared to what I will be having done this time.
What is he doing? Well I said to him if he was going in I wanted him to do everything he could at the one time because I didn’t want to deal with the anxiety and recovery time required from having to go under for another surgery. So we are doing four things this surgery:
- Search for and clean out of any endometriosis
- tubal flush (checking for any blockages)
- ovarian drilling
- and he’s going to karcher my womb … just kidding, but you get what I mean. I am referring to it as a ‘womb cleansing’
So hopefully all this will make a baby 🙂

Wow…good luck with this! It’s hard when you get last minute word that you have to go in for something sooner than you were prepared for. I hope he gets everything done quickly and easily, and that it all helps bring you closer to a baby! Thinking of you!

Thanks heaps! In some ways I am kind of relieved; it is a week less of surgery anxiety, I won’t have AF during surgery and there are only 5 surgeries booked in that day rather than the 15 he would have had the following week.
Honestly I will be quite glad to have it over and done with. 🙂

That’s a good way to look at things 🙂

its going to go great! I had this exact surgery except the ovarian drilling and it’s not near as bad as you think it might be. And it bought me a nice restful week off of work. You’ll be yourself in no time and hopefully get a baby!

Unfortunately I can’t get the whole week off, but I will see how I am by Tuesday and if I feel I need more time I will take it. I don’t want to mess around with the recovery of that area at all. 🙂
Fingers crossed for baby 🙂

I took a week, but it probably wasn’t necessary. Just take it easy 🙂

I shall. I am picking up an armful of ‘sick bed’ books today and have to queue some things up for a netflix binge.
Can I ask, did you get discomfit from eating afterward? I was thinking of protein shaking it for a few days afterward to avoid bloating etc.

I didn’t have any digestive problems. My throat hurt bad from being intubated and deep breaths hurt from being pumped full of gas, but my digestion was pretty normal. The first thing I had after was a milkshake!

Im new to your journey but good luck! I’m sure everything will go splendidly! I had this same procedure except for the drilling and the cleanse! I did have some residual cramping and MINOR spotting but nothing Tylenol couldn’t handle.. Best wishes!

Thank you for reading my story and for sharing yours.
It is great to hear from people who have gone through this. With each new comment I am feeling less anxious. I should probably mention that except for an ankle xray and wisdom teeth removal I have never had to go to hospital for surgery so the anxiety level is pretty high due to the unknown hahaha.

Lol, I hadn’t been under anesthesia since I was 9 and had my tonsils out! I was most nervous about that, but before u go back, they give you a sedative that makes everything calm down lol. I totally mellowed out.

Someone else mentioned a pre-shot to me. Sounds good. I hope I get it hahaha 🙂 It’s not like I can take a shot of whisky or anything to calm my nerves LOL (not that I drink normally so it would probably work really well hahaha). 🙂
September 3rd, 2015 at 12:04 pm
Lol I hope you do too and I’m pretty sure the shot works a lot better than whiskey lol oh, it’ll go great! Can’t wait to read the update!
September 3rd, 2015 at 5:14 pm
Haha I’m sure it will too. Fingers crossed 🙂

It will grow great! I promise this surgery is not as bad as you might think. I was quite surprised at how quickly I recovered. There is some bloating and pain but it really is pretty reasonable. I have had loads of surgeries and my favourite part about them is that the staff preparing you are almost always super kind and considerate and really great at keeping you calm and well looked after. I hope you get lots of staff like that on Saturday. PS Neck surgeries for Mr T? Eeep. That sounds pretty full on.
September 3rd, 2015 at 11:21 am
Thanks, that makes me feel better. Every time I hear someone say that it was fine for them the anxiety levels go down a little 🙂
Mr T has a straight neck and the vertebrae rub against each other causing bone spurs which are really painful. They burnt the nerve on either side of his neck so he cannot feel the pain. Not fun, but on the upside he is in less pain and seems happier than I have seen him in months 🙂
September 3rd, 2015 at 1:51 pm
Oh well I’m so glad it has been helpful for him. Not long until Saturday now. You are going to be SO fine, I know it. x

Yikes. So soon! Wishing you a gentle recovery and most of all… Success!
September 3rd, 2015 at 11:22 am
I know it is soon, only a couple of days to prepare, but I think this is better because I won’t have the extra week of anxiety 🙂
Thanks heaps!!! 🙂
